Teachers

The Lampstand Learning Center was not first conceived by the staff at Lampstand Press.

Rather, God prompted three women to independently come to us with basically the same desire: to help busy families by conducting online tutoring classes for Tapestry subjects as supplements to home teaching, which continues to be primarily conducted by parents in the home. These ladies, and the other teachers who have now joined them, have a passion for this project!

Barb

Barb Spanier, Teacher & Director

Barb has three sons ages 17, 16, and 2. Her first round of homeschooling, which began 12 years ago, is all too quickly winding down; yet she is looking forward with excitement to a second round of home education with her youngest. Tapestry of Grace became a family favorite six years ago. As a Bible teacher with a BA degree in Bible and Bible Teaching from Columbia International University there was no question that Tapestry of Grace, with such a strong commitment to teaching the next generation God's story, would become the backbone of their homeschool. She has been teaching and leading virtual co-ops using Tapestry for 5 years. With the opening of Lampstand Learning Center she is thrilled to be able to offer the online experience that has enriched her family's educational experience to all Tapestry Families. Barb currently resides in Florida with her husband of 20 years and their sons.

Teri

Teri Skidmore

What Teri really loves to do is teach. She has found opportunities to do so for the past seven years through Tapestry co-ops, private schools, and tutoring (tutoring all of WriteAtHome's Tapestry students since that program began). Teri earned a B.S. in computer science and worked as a computer system engineer, corporate trainer, and project manager before becoming a mother. Teri is a computer geek at heart, and now that her children are grown, she is excited to have the opportunity to bring Tapestry of Grace to life online, for students around the corner and around the world! We know you will find that her unique blend of enthusiasm for teaching and tech-savvy approach makes her a lively and engaging discussion leader. She and her husband have graduated four great kids, and live outside Saginaw, Michigan.

Kate

Kate Woods

From early on, Kate has had a keen interest in the printed word, serving as editor for both high school and college yearbooks. She worked as a software engineer and taught university courses, while also volunteering her technical and communication skills to develop newsletters for various organizations. Upon choosing to stay home to raise her family, she realized how much she enjoyed learning along with her children. Finding Tapestry enabled Kate's family to continue doing just that! Kate has taught Literature in her virtual co-op for five years, focusing exclusively on rhetoric Literature the last three years. Through online Tapestry discussions, Kate's family members have developed deep friendships with others around the country, as well as grown in their understanding of how God has woven His plan throughout history and still does so in our lives today. Kate is eager to share the blessings of this approach with others. Kate Woods resides in the Midwest, where she has homeschooled all four of her children.

Jane

Jane Benesch

Jane Benesch resides in Illinois with her husband and two teenage daughters, ages 15 and 13. She is finishing her fifth year of homeschooling, three of those years using Tapestry of Grace. History has become her passion as she learns, along with her students, the history of our world and nation as seen through the sovereignty of God. Prior to homeschooling, Jane earned her B.S. in Medical Technology, along with a Master's Degree in Business Administration, and worked in various aspects of the medical field. In her local co-op, Jane has been challenged to broaden the scope of her students, to see the hand of God in where we've been and to know with certainty that His hand will be on us into the future. She is very excited to be able to share her love of God's story through the Lampstand Learning Center.

Christy

Christy Somerville

Christy lives in Maryland and has been using Tapestry of Grace since age fourteen, when she was one of the original students in Marcia Somerville's first co-ops. Since then, Christy has received a B.A. in Literature from Patrick Henry College and participated in the four-year Redesign Project as a staff author, becoming the architect of Tapestry's Redesign Literature program for rhetoric level students. She has also been teaching Tapestry's rhetoric literature to her own co-op class in Maryland for two years. Christy is excited about the opportunity to extend her love of literature and delight in talking about literature with students to wider regions through Lampstand Learning Center!

Sheri

Sheri Payne

Sheri is a homeschool mom to three lively children, who move all around the world with her and her husband, a 28-year Navy veteran. They decided to homeschool before their first child was born, and once she was they were off and running! Sheri's passion for history has been utilized in numerous co-op classes, including one very exciting class in Hawaiian history in a co-op in Mililani, Hawaii. After years of trying to craft her own classical curriculum, she discovered Tapestry of Grace and has finally found her niche. This will be her fourth year using the Tapestry program, and she has been blessed to have dabbled in Classic, Redesigned, and DE. She is hoping to one day finish that one last semester for her B.S. in Computer Science, and add another in History. She currently lives in Virginia.

Susan

Susan Robinson

Susan has loved to read since she first learned the skill! In elementary school she used to get into trouble for reading ahead in other subjects during math class, which she preferred to avoid. Susan's college background is a practical education specific to nursing. So, for the past 18 years, she has been adding to her own liberal arts background as she read and prepared lessons for her four children as she taught them at home. Tapestry of Grace fit in perfectly with her desire to be able to teach multi-age levels at the same time. Now the final child has moved on to other things and Susan finds herself longing once again to be engrossed in the liberal arts and coming alongside young students as they see the hand of God revealed in the story of human history. Susan lives in northern Illinois with her husband Tim and three of their four children. She works about three days a week as an Emergency Room nurse.
